Hinesville's city water comes from groundwater wells in the Upper Floridan Aquifer, according to the city's water quality report for 2025, and the system serves more than 32,000 people. If you want to know what your water service line is made of, Hinesville Public Works keeps a service line inventory you can ask about.
Half of Hinesville's homes were built before about 1993, by Census survey estimates, so a lot of them are now more than 30 years old. Liberty County keeps building, too: it has permitted several hundred new single-family homes every year since 2021, according to Census building permit data. We plumb new construction from the ground up and work on homes of every age.
Most of Liberty County is on public water, but a 2015 U.S. Geological Survey estimate still put about 11,000 county residents on their own wells. The UGA Extension office at 100 Main Street in Hinesville offers well water tests, and you pick up the kit at the office.
Hinesville averages about 21 nights a year at or below freezing, based on NOAA's 30-year record for the Fort Stewart weather station, about two miles from town. The American Red Cross says outdoor faucets and pipes in unheated crawl spaces are among the first to freeze. Here is how to get yours ready.
